IU debuted on September 24, 2008 with her first mini album, Lost and found, in which she was praised by various korean artists for her strong vocals. On April 16, 2009, IU returned with her first album, titled growing up, with her title song being "Boo". She started promotion for the album on the 17th. Within three weeks, "Boo" went up to the #1 contendants for SBS Inkigayo, and her name also went up twice on Take 7together with other notable artists like SG Wannabe and Younha. The song also did well on KBS Mucis Bank K-Chart, on Mnet, M!countdown chart, and on various online music chart.

In 2009, IU also fill soundtrack popular MBC drama and also played Indonesia. "THE GREAT QUEEN Seon Deok", IU sing the song called "ARARO" where she's plays recommended by the music director. IU is also featured in her album Mighty Mouth "Love Class". she's end of 2009, IU also been recording a song with MC Mong entitled "Love Letter To You" featuring Key Shinee as a rapper.

IU also sang the song eith title "Nagging" featuring seulong 2AM for TV Show "WE GOT MARRIED". June 27, 2010, IU won the first award since her debut on SBS Inkigayo with the song "Nagging". The song also won the award in KBS Music Bank K-Chart. soon after that, IU choosen to sing the OST of the drama round no.1 "Because I'am a woman". IU also collaborated with several other artists, Yoo Seung Ho (Believe in love), and Big Bang's Seungri (I Know).
IU is often shut down the song with playing guitar and offer it to her firend Thunder from MBLAQ, especially renditions of Shinee "Juliette", Big Bang "Lies", SUJU "Sorry Sorry" and Girls Generation "Gee" and other pop artists. Besides having a good voice, IU also showed her acting talent. IU recently penetrated the world of acting by starring in a teen series "Dream High" on KBS station as Kim Pil Sook. The series is quite successful and attracted much attention.
